The African Union Church Cemetery is located next to the Michael N. Castle Trail in Delaware City, Delaware. The 1835 cemetery was restored by the Friends of the African Union Cemetery and dedicated in 2016. The 16 mile recreational Chesapeake & Delaware Canal Trail provides a historical discovery experience to walkers, bikers and horseback riders.

Among those interred in the cemetery are five veterans of the American Civil War, United States Colored Troops. Their graves are marked with United States military markers provided by the government to the deceased. The cemetery is a part of one of the first free Black communities in Delaware.

“They are stunning! Our chairperson and two of us walked out to the cemetery after dark shortly after they were installed. They were everything we’d hoped for. The pictures of the First Light bollard light installation in your advertising material and our subsequent site visit were instrumental to us in choosing your product.”

Recently, the FAUCC installed nine First Light WLB Series solar bollard lights to replace the existing and failing lights. The WLB Series was chosen as it provides a fitting soft glow over the cemetery and plaza in the evening, as well as adding security to this historical site.
